North Star Kimberley Pt 3

The Kimberley terrain is so raw and harsh, which makes living in the region so tough. However, it's been home to the indigenous people for tens of thousands of years.

If you look carefully, evidence of their existence can be found in the surrounding landscape. Rock art provides an insight into Aboriginal beliefs and is scattered throughout the region. Due to it's remoteness, it's often hard to access, but when you are on board the True North many sites are only a stones throw from the shoreline.

Once we cruise out to the blue water, it’s not long before we come across Montgomery Reef. The reef is home a huge variety of marine life and on most days you can see turtles, dugongs, and sharks.

What’s unique about this reef is that as the massive 10 metre tide drops, the reef exposes itself by up to 4 metres. The water flow is loud and the rapids are rushing right before your eyes. These tides really change the face of this region and it's because of big the difference between high and low, that the water falls and flows so dramatically.

The experience the true wilderness of the Kimberley, call North Star Cruises.
