Based on the shores of the spectacular Shoalwater Islands Marine Park just 45 minutes south of Perth, Western Australia is Rockingham were we head-out on a top 10 eco-tourism adventure.
Number one on our list is our exhilarating trip onboard 100% Wild a superior eco-tourist boat where there are no barriers separating you from your adventure.
We encounter the playful bottlenose dolphins that can travel up to speeds of 35 kilometres an hour. They surface often to breathe, doing so two or three times a minute but when they sleep they let one half of their brain sleep at a time.
If you would like to interact with these fascinating creatures in their natural environment then Rockingham Wild Encounters operates the ‘Swim with Wild Dolphins Tour’, the ‘Dolphin Watch Tour’ and the “Dolphin, Penguin & Sea Lion Tour’ - guaranteed for memories of a lifetime!
While you’re at sea the top 10 activities continue with paddling and fishing just to name a few or soak up the island atmosphere enjoying a picnic and taking in the sights of this rugged coastline.
We team up with the Department of Environment and Conservation for a penguin tour appropriately named a waddle. Penguin Island is home to a diverse array of wildlife and boasts breathtaking marine and coastal scenery.
Visiting "The Penguin Experience - Island Discovery Centre" is a must. It is home to the largest colony of little penguins on the west coast and probably Western Australia. Get up close in an environment similar to their natural habitat and learn about them through feedings, commentaries and displays.
Explore the island's network of boardwalks and walkways or grab the binoculars for a spot of bird watching which are also popular pursuits or just relax, find a nice quiet spot on the beach and soak up the islands laid back atmosphere…you’ll feel like your miles away from anywhere!
